Because the leather is broke in, the entire inside surface of the belt is in contact with your body. This allows the belt to give maximum support.

One key to a great belt is leather that has a tight fiber. When you put together the combination of tight fibered leather that is broke in, the result is belt of great support and strength but at the same time a joy to wear. 9 to 10 mm thick.
